The PocketJet 3, PocketJet 3Plus, PocketJet II, and PocketJet 200 can be used to print directly from several Symbian EPOC devices!!
Symbian was established as a private independent company in June 1998 and is owned by Ericsson, Nokia, Panasonic, Motorola, Psion, Samsung Electronics, Siemens and Sony Ericsson.
Among the primary goals of this consortium is to provide a standard operating system and development tools for use with data-enabled cell phones. The Operating System used by these devices is commonly referred to as EPOC, with various revisions of the EPOC operating system commonly referred to as ERx, where “x” is the version number.
Pentax now provides drivers for ER5, ER6, and Nokia 9300/9500 devices on the driver CD.
ER5 devices include Psion Series 5 and NetBook, which are primarily “PDA’s”.
ER6 devices include ONLY the Nokia 9290/9210 Communicator Phones.
Nokia 9300/9500 Communicator phones also have a unique driver solution.
Support for “Series 60”, “Series 70”, “Series 80”, and “UIQ” devices was not available at the time the driver CD 3.0 was released. Please contact Technical Support to inquire about support for devices on these newer Symbian platforms.
ER5 Driver Revision History:
· Modified data sent at end of each page to send ESC~*\00\00 instead of ESC~\00\00.
· Added support for PocketJet 3 and 3plus printers
· Changed default density to 7 (from 6)
· Changed default FF mode to Fixed Page (from End of Page)
· Changed default ExtraFeed to 1 inch (200 or 300, depending on printer).
· A new developer overtook development and maintenance. Some minor modifications were made.
· Original version created by Symbian developer for both PocketJet II and 200.
· Supports both IRDA and SERIAL interfaces
ER6 Driver Revision History:
· Modified data sent at end of each page to send ESC~*\00\00 instead of ESC~\00\00. This was done to try to solve a problem discovered when printing via IRDA to the PJ3 or PJ3plus printers. This did NOT solve the problem, but the old data stream was incorrect.
· Note: The IRDA problem with PJ3/3plus is that the page does not eject in some cases, usually when there is only a small amount of data on the page. The data printed is usually complete, and so performing a “manual” form feed by pressing-and-holding the power button can eject the page. The IRDA connection seems to be “timing out” and not sending the form feed data to the printer for some reason. The print job may also fail if there is data only on the top and bottom of the page, with nothing in between. Pentax will continue to investigate this problem and will try to provide a solution if possible.
· Added support for PocketJet 3 and 3plus printers
· Changed the layout so that instead of having a property sheet for each printer, there is now a control.
· Added “Shutdown Apps” during Install to avoid various Kern-Exec errors in case app that prints is running during install.
· Original version created by developer of ER5 version 2.0 driver.
Nokia 9300/9500 Driver Revision History:
· This driver is based on the same code as the ER6 driver, but the Control Panel applet supplied is different due to target platform differences.
· Note: The IRDA problem described above for ER6 driver also occurs on these devices.
