PocketJet
Case Studies
|
| The
Pentax PocketJet is used in a variety of industries that require reliable,
low maintenance, portable printers. Below are a few short case studies
that describe why industries have chosen the Pentax PocketJet portable
printer. |
An
Exclusive Mobile Office
 |
The
print and scan modules are important components in the new MFCU
in-vehicle mobile office communication unit available in Audi's
A8 luxury vehicle. The Pentax PocketJet 200 and the Pentax DSmobile
Scanner were the best selection for meeting the MFCU's operating
requirements. More |

Service
and Telecom Technicians

Miele,
a household goods manufacturer in Gütersloh/Germany, is equipping
its technical service personnel with the Pentax PocketJet II,
a high-quality ultra portable solution for thermal direct printing.
"Weight, follow-up costs, simple operation and easy maintenance
were the deciding criteria for us. Apart from changing the thermal
paper there is no further cost, because the replacement of ink
cartridges, toner or ribbons, which is typical with other printers,
is not necessary." More |

Emergency
Response & Public Safety
|
|
They
speed through the city of Paris in their distinctive red vehicles,
sirens wailing, bringing emergency medical assistance to persons
in need. Providing urgent medical care is an important function
of the Firefighters Brigade for the City of Paris. Their well-equipped
aid vehicles provide medical assistance for persons enroute
to being hospitalized. The Brigade's printer requirements were
demanding : easy to use, durable construction, rapid print speed,
compact size and easy integration with the data terminal. The
Pentax PocketJet with roll paper fulfilled their medical report
printing requirements and smoked out the slow messy inkjets
- no more loading paper or ink - saving valuable time getting
reports to doctors. More |

Fire
Fighters
|
|
The
Devon Fire Brigade wanted information electronically available
in the cabs of their fire engines. They equipped 15 of their
115 fire vehicles with Tempus VMDS touch screen computers and
Pentax PocketJet printers. The ability to print out relevant
building information at the scene of an emergency, sometimes
in extreme conditions, was critical and could mean the difference
between life and death for attending fire fighters. On those
occasions, the direct thermal printing of the Pentax PocketJet
made the difference. More |

Logging
|
|
A
modern logging operation like ESE requires up-to- the-minute
reports from loggers to match logging loads with sawmill capacities
and available stocks as well as matching supply and demand for
various types of woods to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.
The printer needed for this job had to be small, portable, extremely
tough, and able to operate "hitch-free" for a minimum of five
years. It had to withstand harsh conditions, extreme temperatures,
continuous vibrations and jerky movements. More |

Vehicle
Inspectors
|
|
The
administration of inspection forms was becoming a growing problem
with The Royal Auto Club (RAC) with 170 Vehicle Inspectors checking
the dozens of elements that make a car roadworthy, then filling
out inspection forms in all weather conditions. RAC decided
to standardize the inspection process by going digital with
Casio PA2400 handheld PCs and giving field workers a portable
data-capture unit that could print out paper copies of inspections
under a wide range of adverse conditions. This is where the
Pentax PocketJet outperformed others, being robust, inexpensive
to operate and compact. Because the Pentax PocketJet uses direct
thermal printing, it produces clean, high quality printing with
no mess or expensive ink dyes unlike thermal transfer printers.

Water
Inspectors
|
|
In
2000 Southern Water reviewed its data support system used by
water inspectors and sewage staff. System enhancements were
required to provide greatly improved remote access to vital
health and safety data including gas and electricity distribution
records. Field staff needed on-site printing capabilities to
aid local communications and avoid return trips to the office.
The new hardware had to be compact with minimum moving parts
to extend its life in the field across a wide range of vehicles.

Rottapharm
is currently the only pharmaceutical company in Italy whose
sale force actively uses portable computer equipment to conduct
on-site order management at chemists' shops. Every agent is
equipped with a briefcase that includes a complete mobile solution
for conducting sales-related business visits: a pen computer,
model ST3400, produced by Fujitsu-Siemens and the PocketJet
II thermal printer from Pentax. These technical solutions were
chosen on the basis of high performances while maintaining minimal
footprint. More

Vitens
Water Company: At this time, the PocketJet has been installed
in 68 vehicles and the response is astonishing. Jos Lenoir concludes:
"Despite the somewhat higher cost of ownership for a thermal
printer, we save money on malfunctions and ink cartridges, and
our users are extremely satisfied". René Vets seconds this statement:
"Thanks to the special paper from Pentax, we can now print our
network drawings and orders without the risk of the ink being
smeared. We are able to read the details off the drawings, even
in rainy weather. It also creates a better impression for the
customer when he gets a clean copy from us, without ink spots."
