the PocketJet with Bluetooth
Information Center to learn more about Bluetooth technology
and how to configure it with the Pentax PocketJet.
This
document explains the PocketJet solution to use for three major
printer applications:
- Printing
on the Go
- In-Vehicle
Printing

PocketJet
Models:
- The PENTAX
PocketJet 3 Plus and previous PocketJet II printers
are "top of the line" 300-dpi
mobile printers offered by Pentax. This offering is recommended
for any printing application that requires "extensive" graphic
printing in black and gray scale. Please note that not all PDA
or handheld applications will support a 300-dpi requirement.
- The PENTAX
PocketJet 3 printer is a 200-dpi
printer. This printer is recommended for all uses, however, you
may find that intricate graphics or very small, fine print may
not be as clear and crisp as on the 300-dpi PocketJet 3Plus. The
PocketJet 3 was designed with the dual objective of lowering the
price of mobile printing while providing excellent quality printing
with a Laptop, Handheld and/or PDA. With the Pentax direct thermal
technology, the heat of the printing head determines the quality
of the print. Pentax has adjusted the heat of 200-dpi print to
have quality comparable to black and white laser output.
- Both new
PocketJet 3 models above now come with optional Bluetooth
capability that is fully integrated inside the printer. No extra
Bluetooth module/adapters/cables are needed as with previous PocketJet
II/200 models.
The

a connection to data, software applications and a printing device.

How
to Choose A Printing Solution:
The best way to choose the optimum printing solution is to understand
what your computer/host device is going to be and how you are
going to use it. Once that question is answered, it will make
it simple to decide questions such as:

printing in my vehicle only?
- Will I have
multiple devices I need to print from?
- Will the
device I am using always need to be in the "on" position?
- What is the
best way to maintain power to the printer?

but are away from it more than 20 percent of the time. Versatility
is important because Printing on the Go may require printing
from different host devices such as a laptop, handheld or a
PDA and printing may take place while in a meeting, on a plane,
in a hotel, or at home. Regardless of where you print, the PocketJet
will improve productivity. |

Paper Feeding: Pentax also offers a desktop mount that was developed
for roll type paper, called the "Desktop Caddy". This
mount was developed for use by Polygraph Examiners but is also ideal
for any application requiring continuous print media. More

| In-Vehicle
Printing |

This
professional works from their vehicle and requires mobile communications.
Their vehicle is their office and it is constructed to be efficient.
In-vehicle printing is usually with a dedicated input device.
A
"custom package" best supports in-vehicle printing. If the printer
is going to be stationary in the vehicle, it is not necessary to
buy a kit but other items will be a necessity. The following pieces
are an example of an in-vehicle solution:
Vehicle Mounting
- Preferences for mounting, placement, and paper use of in-vehicle
printers are numerous and so are the choices of mounts. Everything
has been done from the simple attachment of the printer to a convenient
console surface by the means of Velcro to opening the armrest and
finding a printer mount. Pentax sells an "In-Vehicle Mount"
for PocketJets, or you can get other mounting ideas from mounting
vendors recommended by Pentax that are known to have assemblies
that fit the Pentax PocketJet. More

This
professional works both in and out of their vehicle. Their job may
require everything from inventory reports, contracts, instruction
sheets, or invoices, and they may be printing from the customer
site or from inside their vehicle. A combination of a kit and a

Pentax PocketJet Printer Offering |
High
Quality:
This printer offers high quality features such as:
- Character
and graphics are always sharp and clear and never smudge or
smear when handled or exposed to the environment.
- Printing
speed up to three pages per minute and is not hindered by
memory limitations
- Weight
and dimensions are as small as possible - Measuring 10.04"
in length and weighing a little over 1.12lb including the
battery.
- The printer
can accommodate letter, legal, or A4 width paper.

use of single sheet printing for document printing.

use of roll paper for cost savings by using the "end of print"
feature that prints only the amount of paper needed and allows
for "hands free" printing.

The
Power Connection:
The
Pentax PocketJet Printer Family operates at a nominal voltage
of 12 volts DC. This voltage can be provided in numerous ways:
- Internal
Battery: Pentax provides a rechargeable NiMH (nickel-metal
hydride) long-lasting battery that will print up to 100 pages
when fully charged. Using the AC adapter or one of the charging
car adapters allows the battery to be recharged.
- AC
Adapter: This is a universal adapter with a volt range
of 100 to 240. The only thing that needs to change is the
power cord to accommodate differing AC plug connections for
international use. This adapter can also be used to recharge
the printer battery.
- Car
Adapter (charging): This adapter is available in either
a cigarette lighter plug adapter or an adapter without a cigarette
lighter plug (for a hardwired connection to the vehicle).
This connection will allow the printer to recharge the battery
while the vehicle is running.
The
Printer Packaging:
Pentax understands that the need for flexible buying is just
as important as printer functionality. These printers can be purchased
in the form of a "standard kit" or a customized package with both
offerings meeting the users specific printing need.
The
Standard Kit:
Will
printing be from a laptop, PDA or handheld and printing could
be from a car, bus, train, client's home/office, or home office
with the combination needed all in the same day?
The
Standard Kit would be the ideal solution. This kit has everything
needed to start printing immediately. Some of the most common
industries that have purchased the Standard Kit are Sales Agents,

Sheets of Pentax Quality Paper
The
Standard Kit has everything needed for printing. However, for
heavy daily usage Pentax recommends optional purchases such as
a charging cigarette lighter plug adapter or an additional battery.
The
Consumables:
Just Add paper! Pentax
Quality Paper is the ONLY consumable for the Pentax
PocketJet Printer Family and provides crisp text and quality images
at one of the lowest costs per printed page in the industry. Pentax
has put extensive engineering efforts into providing an Award
Winning technology used in Pentax Quality Paper. This paper is
a high quality thermal paper that uses a heavier base-stock (20-pound)
and whiteness characteristic that are very similar to copier bond
paper in a wide use around the world.
Paper
is available in two forms::
- Single
sheets of Letter Size, Legal Size or A4 Size. The Single Sheet
Option is sold by the box with each box containing 100 sheets.
- Roll
paper: The Pentax PocketJet printers have the ability to print
"end of print" and not just " end of page". This translates
into allowing the user to print any length of paper and use
only the amount of paper needed... saving time and money.
Applications are typically in-vehicle and print anything from
a work order, to a receipt, to a ticket, to a report, to a
polygraph test and take full advantage of this feature! The
Roll Option is sold in two options: a box with six-100 ft
rolls per box or a master carton of 36 - 100ft rolls.
